Character Name: Neferti

Age: 19
Personality: One of the Bast race. Unlike most of her race, however, Neferti, is a quiet, serious type, and not at all prone to the whims of chasing laser pointers and clawing beds. Mostly.

A very humorless, impatient, and irritable personality. She is driven to be professional in all things! This has gotten to the point where, unlike most of her race, she has forced herself to become diurnal. She is fairly cold, like the above. And a complete workaholic.

Oddly enough for a Bast, she is insanely loyal to Atuin, rather than to Sakmet. She wants to serve her city (since. countries aren't a thing.) and has joined the military and public service as a result! So her off-the-record dishonorable discharge and boot to this job make her a sad cat. She would kind of be a Captain America (Cat-tain Atuin?) if such things existed in this world.

She's got a very, very strict code of honor, the honor of a true knight! This code of honor is more important than her life, and perhaps more than other people's lives too. It is fairly basic stuff- Only fight fairly, for just causes, never harm an innocent or an invalid, protect the innocent, serve the country, etc. She also places similar levels of importance on her sword, which she views as a sort of a physical representation of her honor. With her current dishonor, though, she refuses to unsheathe the sword until it is cleared, instead forming a sword out of magic.

When she's off-duty, she is still mostly the same, though a bit more willing to indulge in humor and repartee. She's got kind of a terrible sense of humor, though, big on schadenfreude and cutting remarks. Kind of a bitchy sense of humor. It's all in good fun and she doesn't really mean it when she tells you you've got the arm strength of the leviathan (a mighty sea creature, incredibly strong and dangerous, but of course... lacking arms.) Despite her verbal barbs, she's known to go out of her way to help people. She's just not nice about it.

History: Neferti was a tiny, one-eyed orphan in a small outskirt island around Atuin. As a Bast in human country, this could have gone poorly for her. Instead, she was lucky, and instead of being stuck as a street urchin or in an orphanage that didn't know how to deal with non-humans, she was taken in by a kind old human. Specifically a retired knight, and former hero who repelled monster invasions repeatedly. He was the ultimate badass of ultimate destiny. She was only with him a few years, but those few years shaped her entire being: She wanted to become just like him. He was a kind man who loved everyone, and was strong enough to keep everyone safe. Who you were didn't matter to him! He taught her of the knight's code of honor, outdated even in his time, but a code he adhered to regardless. She vowed to take up his code, too.

But he was old, and he passed away (peacefully and happily) when Neferti was around 10. Having learned the basics of magic and swordplay from him, she enrolled in training to become a magic knight herself. There were, in fact, programs for children who wanted such, and Neferti was placed in that, as just about the only Bast in her class. She excelled anyway, thanks to the groundwork training from her foster grandpa. Around this point, she managed to get a magic crystal implanted into her dead eye in order to make it work, and function as a power-up to her magic too. It was pretty great. She had graduated and become an official knight in the army at 16.

This only lasted a couple years, however. Deep in the heart of Atuin's central area, in the room of the Source Crystal where only a very select few are allowed to go, there was a break-in. There was no evidence of who did it, or their goal, but another knight who had been on-duty at the time reported a Bast matching Neferti's description skulking around the area. There was no proof, but the accusation was enough. She was taken out of active service, and spent the next year getting shunted around on odd side-jobs that were technically for the government, but out of the way where she couldn't do harm.

Then some idiot opened up a portal that started dragging people in from other worlds. They needed to show their apologies and make sure the new people were okay! But everyone important was busy trying to... actually fix this, figure out the impact this will have on the economy, plan living accomodations, and so on. So by virtue of not being trusted anywhere closer, Neferti was given the job of looking after these new assholes and getting them adjusted and acclimated to life on Atuin. Or elsewhere, should they decide to leave.
Abilities: As a magic knight, Neferti is skilled with a sword and combat-related magic. Has a far wider array of offensive spells than defenses, but her specialty and trademark is a wall of ice and lightning. In terms of offense, she's got a wide array of ice, lightning, and magic arrows and the like! Her preferred finisher is manifesting twin swords out of lightning, and delivering a fast barrage.

Obviously, her affinity is towards ice and lightning spells, though she's a well-rounded caster with some abilities from most elements.
